You'all did a great job with the winterization project. Here is a complimentary concept that might work. Introduce mud into the mapping equation. I am thinking of something along the lines of how the frozen river on Zytomir map works. Slowed movement, penalties on cover and or combat. IIRC the old Smolensk Map, (Psel), had a rising water level in the pond containing the central VP now. This might be a false memory on my part but it would be cool if possible.
I don't know if any of this would work; but it would be a unique sort of feature for the Mod.

I'd love to see the same kind of thing myself! Although I have no idea about rising water levels, I would like to see whether slowing can be added to other types of terrain. By using invisible splines, you can create negative cover wherever you want, but I am unsure about the slowing effect of water.
I'm currently working on a desert map in which I'd love to see something similar, where vehicles and infantry slow down as they ascent sand dunes, as their feet or tacks slip deeper into the steep sand.

On your desert maps, if you could generate rooster tails for vehicles when they are churning the sand/dust that would be cool.
At present an effect is generated that creates a large spherical, (hemisherical?), dust cloud when there is an explosion around a vehicle. Obscures everything. If this effect can be made directional we could probably get a roostertail.

Sadly, both the effects suggested by you would only work after having modded the game :-\
