Historical question about the turrets of russian tanks...
« on: February 17, 2012, 04:30:05 PM »
just wondering, for the following tanks

T-34/76
T-34/85
KV-1
IS-2

Which of these had a manual turret turning system? I'm guessing they all would, but could someone please elaborate on how it would work? Would there be like a winch that you keep spinning or something? Thanks

they all had electrical turret traverse systems, but also had manual traverse to fine tune aim and in case the electrical traverse failed

Well from what I know is that only the tiger tank had a turret that could move on it's own

nope, multiple tanks had power traverse, though the tiger was somewhat unique in that its turret was powered hydraulically and not electrically

Wait, I thought T-34s in WWII had a manual turret traverse. It says on wikipedia that the 1945 late version was updated with an electric traverse.
