Rzhev - 4 player map.
« on: July 07, 2009, 05:23:09 PM »
Hey all.

Thought i'd try my hand at making a map, its my first attempt so theres probably quite abit that you guys could recommend to add to it so feedback n all that is welcome :)

Its based off an Eastern Front battle and uses the snow atmosphere file from the Hurtgen maps by TEXAS.

It doesn't have a loading screen and minimap picture on the menu because i dont have photoshop or anything like that.

Also my description for the map seems to be getting cut off after the first few words, any ideas why?

So, screens...

Woods

Hamlet 1

Railyard

Trenches

Hamlet 2

and the file...

Hope you enjoy it  :)

Cheers

Looks good, but the ground looks at the first picture very clean.
A few more Splats would be great, but than not 100%, less would be better for snow...

And the trenches are a little bit to high above the ground level.
But i´m goin to test it at the evening or tomorrow

Very nice map, it is refreshing to have another winter level.

Don't worry about the loading screen or minimap picture, that is our job to sort out to ensure it is of maximum quality and seamless with other maps.

The description box you are trying to type in is actually designed for string numbers, rather than a full description. What this does is 'hyperlinks' the description to a specific line in the language files. That way, you don't get English map descriptions in the French game.

For now, all you need to do is use a placeholder description (e.g. 'Mapname Description'), and we will do the rest.

Hey, glad you guys think it good  :)

@Mystic

There actually are quite a few splats in the woods area, I just seem to have managed to get the one place where there is hardly any haha. They were mainly focused around the villiage areas though as the woods were designed to look abit less battle damaged.

Yeah the trenches are a little raised, I did it intentionally so they kinda doubled up as barricade type structures too, if you want to use the map feel free to adjust the height though :)

@Warty

Yeah, I was thinking theres only one in the EF map list at the moment, and when I think of the Eastern Front I always think of snow and the russian winter.

Ahh rite, that makes more sense. The description was going to be this anyway...

"Winter 1942 saw the launch of Operation Mars, its main objective was to eliminate the German 9th Army by attacking it from all sides of the Rzhev salient. The battles became known as the "Rzhev meat grinder" for their huge losses, particularly on the Soviet side."

Also I was thinking of how maps have a little icon on the right of the map select box, Relic ones use the yellow relic "r" symbol, and community ones added in a patch have the outline of peoples heads. It would be cool if EF had its own little symbol aswell if possible.

Not that it matters at all but would be a nice little aesthetic touch if there was time for it?

Cheers

We are experimenting with an Eastern Front map symbol, but it is more difficult than expected. It seems we have to bypass certain hardcoding and other complicated stuff like that.

So are you guys thinking about taking it for the mod?
If so is there anything I could do to improve the map?
I've got quite abit of spare time at the mo so should get it done quickly  :)

I wanted to download it yesterday, but my internet hasen`t work.
So i will test it maybe today

EDIT: Just tested it, Ki works well, everything is fine.
Only Suggestions are the Trenches like my Post at the top and the OOB Area is a little bit clean.
To Clean, nice that you used OOB Objects but in the near of the playable Area there is nothing!
btw in the allied bases the MG Emplacements are not in the HQ Sector

Updated the map with more realistic splats and terrain. Few other tweaks aswell. Made a permentant link aswell.

Seems theres more people around these days maybe it'll get some downloads.

Let me know what you think  :)
