The Ostheer
« on: September 24, 2010, 05:25:49 PM »
I was wondering what was taking them so long with the Ostheer. Seems like 8 months since eastern front was released would be plenty of time. After all it only took me and my dad about 5 months to fix up a 1976 Pontiac Firebird we found in a junkyard.......if you guys know anything about cars. But yeah just wondering  Whats up with the wait.

Well. Creating a new faction isnt easy!
U have to calculate the time for a concept, time for coding the stuff and time for creating and animating new tanks.
The last point is the heaviest problem.
It takes a long time to make and finish models ( keep in mind: u need a full model and a destroyed model + animations! ).

So all in all it is a long process and it will need a long time.
May the force be with you.

not to forget the work on red army/coh rebalancing and the fact that devs have privat lives and school/university as well

They've also lost some of their best coders/animators.
 MrScruffs, for starters.

Starcraft2 took 12 years to make, so... ;)
You know, there are many people in the country today who, through no fault of their own, are sane. Some of them were born sane. Some of them became sane later in their lives. It is up to people like you and me who are out of our tiny little minds to try and help these people overcome their sanity

I think i get it. Everything usually is harder than it sounds. Thanks for clearing that up. And Im pretty sure blizzard just got too preoccupied with word of war craft to get starcraft 2 done. I hope to god it doesnt take tweleve years for this to get done lol.

Yes, but remember that Starcraft 2 programers did it because was their job, EF isn't the job of the Team, just their hobby.

There is no comparison between a mod and real game development, don't be silly.
This project has been running for many years now and unfortunately, as it happens people move to other directions with the passing of time and dedication levels drop. Its always the same with any mod project.

The unfortunate thing is that coh is not very mod friendly and there are ever fewer people in the community capable of making good animations for new models.
We don't have the same level of resources we used to have. Essential skilled people are just not as 'available' as they used to be.
Its why Ostheer, which is a large project in nature, will take considerable more time than any non-mod people would 'guess'....I estimated 1 1/2 year minimum back in Feb 10'
